What Should I Expect?

Immanuel is a small gospel-centered, Presbyterian church located now in Highland Park, NJ (formerly Edison). We are located near Rutgers University in New Brunswick, but we exist to love and serve all of Middlesex County. The EM is short for English Ministry.

People

Expect a small congregation with about 15-20 people with an age range of 18-34. Expect a few yuppies (Young Urban Professionals). Although our heritage is Korean-American, some of us are not Korean. We’re smaller, so we would love the opportunity to get to know you personally. We welcome people from all ethnic backgrounds.

Dress

We dress casually for church, and so should you. Jeans and a t-shirt are normal. At Immanuel, we aim to make it safe for skeptics to ask the tough questions and explore Christianity.

Worship

Expect a structured, Anglican-influenced liturgy. That means hymns, some modern music, responsive prayers and a sermon. The sermon is based on the Bible but sensitive to outsiders. Stay after the service to eat some snacks and get to know people.

Theology

God enters in and meets us in our fractured complexity and mixed motives. Jesus unsettles the “respectably religious.” He invites and heals the morally broken and unwanted. We aspire to the same in our ministry.

The gospel offers radical grace, acceptance and forgiveness for those who know they are failures. The Holy Spirit transforms us, by grace, into new people. Learn more here.
